Explore our 8-day Socotra camping expedition, with hiking, nights at camp, tents, bedding and bathroom facilities explained before you book

The Socotra camping experience

Camping in Socotra brings you closer to the island’s landscapes and to the experience of travelling through them. On our 8-day, 7-night expedition, hiking, exploring and nights at camp are all part of the journey

Before booking, it helps to understand what camping involves, what we provide and what daily life on the trip looks like

More than a place to sleep

The expedition combines exploring Socotra with living outdoors. Days revolve around the route: travelling between locations, walking through landscapes and taking time to appreciate the island. Evenings bring the group back together at camp, with time to eat, rest and prepare for the next day

Camping is an important part of the experience. You should be comfortable with simple outdoor accommodation, shared facilities and a routine shaped by the itinerary and local conditions

For the places visited and the day-by-day route, explore our 8-day Socotra expedition itinerary

Tents and bedding: what we provide

We provide single and double tents equipped with a sleeping mattress, pillow and blanket. Our team handles the setup throughout the trip, so you do not need to bring your own tent or these bedding essentials

This is a camping expedition with practical sleeping equipment. Expect a simpler experience than a hotel room, with the sounds and conditions of the outdoors around you

Toilets and showers

We provide portable toilets in separate privacy tents at camp

Showering is available at public bathroom facilities. These arrangements are separate from your sleeping tent; you should not expect an en-suite bathroom

If bathroom facilities are an important consideration for you, speak with our team before booking so we can explain the arrangements for your departure

Meals and the team travelling with you

A local Socotri guide, a driver and a kitchen team accompany the group throughout the expedition, with a fully equipped kitchen carried in a dedicated vehicle to prepare meals along the route

The guide helps you understand the places you visit, while the team handles transport, meal preparation and camp arrangements. You travel with people who know the island and take care of the trip’s daily details

Please tell us about dietary requirements before booking so our team can confirm what we can accommodate

Internet during the expedition

Starlink internet is available to all our travellers at no additional charge

Availability and connection quality can vary with local conditions and technical factors. You can enjoy the outdoor experience while having opportunities to stay in touch, but reliable, uninterrupted internet should not be assumed

Can I choose a hotel for the final night?

Yes. For the final night, you can continue camping or choose a hotel at an additional charge

We recommend camping to complete the outdoor experience, but the choice is yours. Available hotel options and their prices are shown during booking

What should I pack?

Bring clothing and personal items suited to hiking and camping:

  • Comfortable walking shoes that you have already worn
  • Lightweight clothing, sun protection and a layer for cooler evenings
  • Personal toiletries, a towel and any medication you need
  • A headlamp or small torch
  • Your own power bank for personal devices
  • A daypack for items you want to carry during walks

Your tent, sleeping mattress, pillow and blanket are provided. Contact our team before departure if you have questions about equipment or personal requirements

Is this expedition right for you?

This trip is suited to travellers who enjoy nature, walking and spending time outdoors, and who are comfortable with camping and shared facilities

If you have specific mobility, medical or accommodation requirements, discuss them with us before booking. Understanding the experience in advance helps you choose a trip that suits you

Getting to your expedition

Expeditions start on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the days of the direct Yemenia Airways flights from Jeddah to Socotra. Airport transfers on the island are included, and we can book your flights as an Authorized Yemenia Airways Sales Agent — see flights to Socotra from Jeddah
